BURRUS, Douglas Ian (Doug): Passed away suddenly at home on 1 July 2019, aged 81 years. Beloved and devoted husband of Frances for 56 years. Dearly loved and treasured father and father-in-law of Jude and Sam (Blenheim), Michelle and Matt (Paremata) and Antony. Adored grandad of Bex, Tom, Charlotte, Meg, Carys and Rhys. Donations to Wellington Free Ambulance are welcome in lieu of flowers and may be left at the service. Messages for the family are welcome and may be left in Doug's tribute book at tributes.co.nz or posted c/- 157 Main Road, Tawa. A service to celebrate Doug's life will be held at the Tawa Union Church, Elena Place, Tawa, on Monday 8 July at 11.00am, and will be followed by a private cremation.
Judith Havill has had knee surgery if anyone would like to text or call her and pop in. Hope you are recovering well Judith.
New Members - social gathering
New Members Lyn, Allister, Fiona, Karyn, Kevin, Robyn, Louise, Muditha, and any prospective new members are invited to join the membership team with Denise next Saturday 13th July, 3 pm, at The Roundabout for 1 hour for a touch base chat. Paul, and any other members who would like to join us and hear from our new members are also welcome. New Members - Rotary Training
Hold the date of Sunday 4th August open for RLI (Rotary Learning and Information) Training. This course will show you how Rotary ticks and ways that you can make the most of your membership. Suitable for those of us who want a refresher also. More details to come.
District Changeover
The District Changeover ceremony event was held on Sunday at Wharewaka in Wellington in conjunction with Rotary Wellington North changeover event, at which PDG Marion Johnston handed the DG Chain of office on to DG John H Mohi.
On Tuesday 2nd July a successful Rotary Tawa changeover night was held – with 60 attendees.
The evening commenced with a time of silence in memory of Doug Burrus.
A very special Honour.
President Denise had the honour in presenting Karen Searle with a PHF award in recognition of women in Rotary for 30 years and Karen’s 26 years service of helping with Rotary Tawa community service, set up, IT support and helping guest speakers with their presentations, plus project work and helping other community groups with the venue set up etc.
Denise also had the very special honour of presenting a PHF award to Immediate Past President Richard Herbert for his outstanding community service over the past 15 years at Rotary Tawa and with involvement in many community agencies with a focus on community, trees, environment, Council, plus much more.
2 more outstanding Tawa Rotarians. Thank you both.

Doug will be sadly missed, he made a huge contribution to our club and to the community during his 30 years.)

I love to travel! I even enjoy the mundane process of getting from here to there. But last year, my wife, Gay, and I had one of those experiences that would strain the optimism of even the most cheerful traveler. We found ourselves with six hours to wait, at an airport where we were not scheduled to be, on a day we had not planned still to be traveling, having woken up that morning at a hotel unknown to us the night before. It was one of those days.
As we waited at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, Gay and I took a walk to people watch. We went from one end of the terminal to the other and back, looking at every gate, every destination, every group of people waiting for their flights.
