A colourful New Zealand
There is lots on my list, so I shall keep it brief. Wish me luck!
Great to see so many people on Tuesday.
I was really fascinated by Dr Gary’s story about his aid work in Fiji.Once again incredible what opportunities Rotary has to offer.
The last Friday of August is national multicultural day. So embrace who you are, show it and celebrate. Regardless where you from, New Zealand, India, Scotland or Africa. Diversity is what makes life interesting.
I had the privilege to attend the Multicultural New Zealand celebration on Wednesday at Parliament. It was a vibrant and most colourful celebration of the 180 ethnicities that call NZ their home.
MNZ President Panacha spoke candidly about the struggles immigrants encounter, underscoring the need for ongoing effort. The notion of a "butter chicken tsunami" is a poignant antithesis to Rotary's principles.
As a club is we live and breathe these values and we are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. I'm very proud of how the club is embracing this.
Nepal
The devastating disaster in Nepal yesterday, a result of global warming, is really heartbreaking.
RNZWCS has acted very quickly and set up an appeal for Nepal.
If you want to provide support to these communities in Nepal, a donation to the bank account on the flyer and tacked here is probably the best way to do so for now.
September just ahead
739
Continuing with our theme of health and wellbeing - September is Men’s Health month.
739 a campaign, asking to complete 739 push ups to raise awareness about the 739 men in New Zealand who lose their lives to prostate cancer every year.
As a club, I’d love us to do collectively do 739 push ups - if you can, of course.
We will take tally at the end of each week, and get as close to 739, and hopefully finishing off - live - at a club night.
Our next club meeting
A great progamme has once again come together.
We’ll explore how Rotary fosters diversity, inclusiveness and equity.m and we’re also hearing from a real celebrity, although you’d never knew it, l. Looking the plan for the next few weeks ahead., and sharing a cuppa is also on the agenda.
Bene and I will bring cupcakes, available to take home (or eat right there) for a koha, to support the SPCA cupcake day. So, bring some spare chnage.
September is Rotary’s literacy month
To celebrate literacy month, I’d like everyone to bring their favourite book to the next club meeting (Tue 8 Sept).
I’m keen to find out what’s on your bookshelf - but please bring only one book!!!
Don’t forget to RSVP for Oktoberfest and the Quiz night. I’d love to see you, and your friends and families there. Both are set to be a fantastic experiences.
I thinks that’s quite enough.
As always check the calendar below, stay well and look after yourself.
I’m looking forward seeing you all soon.
