Our speaker last week was Chris Kirk-Burnnand, he has recently been elected a Councilor for the Greater Wellington Regional Council. He has an extensive business background and shared with us his initial thoughts and observations.  A very interesting update from Chris, it will be good to get him back to our club in 12 months time and hear about the progress he has made.  Chris outlined his approach in running businesses, he used his sense of humor to get his message across to us.

It was really great to have Mok Freitas join us for his last visit to our club before he heads home in late December. President Judith presented him with a gift to take back to his family.  We will miss Mok and his vibrant personality, it has been a pleasure to have him as part of our Rotary family.

President Judith suggested we have a little fun and dig deep to raise some extra funds to assist the people of Samoa. We certainly rose to the challenge and we ended up donating money for mystery wrapped bottles. A great fun night and we were surprised by what we collected. No one was more surprised than President Judith collecting a few bottles along the way at the end of a successful night. $265.00 was raised by those members in attendance.

You might ask, why celebrate this anniversary? For Rotary, it is entirely appropriate, because we played such a critical leadership role in the San Francisco Conference that formed the United Nations in 1945. Throughout World War II, Rotary published materials about the importance of forming such an organization to preserve world peace.
