Welcome to the new Rotary Year. I am excited and hope you will all find our club has an interesting and engaging programme for you to enjoy. We have a variety of plans from fundraising to fun raising, projects and prospects.
I gave out a list of committees at the meeting last week and these will be emailed to you so you have them electronically as well as the printed page. I hope you will support the Directors and Champions of each committee and give help and expertise wherever possible. As I explained once a month we will have committee night – start with some fellowship, a meal and then a chance to meet in your committees as appropriate and finishing the evening with the Board meeting. This way I hope meetings will be kept mainly to the one night, without having to tie up other times during everyones busy weeks. It’s a bit of a trial way of doing things so let me know if you think its working or not. First such evening will be 6th of August.

Rotary Meeting 09 July 2019

The First Meeting of the Year

After a very early morning start for President Judith, a further update on the year ahead was shared, this was supported by Director updates. This was followed by the first Board of Directors Meeting for the new rotary year. There is plenty happening and it promises to be an exciting and fast paced year.

Rotary Basics is now an online course that covers all things Rotary in an interactive, multimedia format.

In this new Learning Centre course, you can deepen your understanding of Rotary as well as meet members around the world and watch videos. You can also take a quiz to test your Rotary knowledge.

The Rotary Basics online course was designed for new members, but it is also a good refresher for long-time members who want to test their Rotary knowledge or even nonmembers who simply want to know what Rotary is all about.

I love to travel! I even enjoy the mundane process of getting from here to there. But last year, my wife, Gay, and I had one of those experiences that would strain the optimism of even the most cheerful traveler. We found ourselves with six hours to wait, at an airport where we were not scheduled to be, on a day we had not planned still to be traveling, having woken up that morning at a hotel unknown to us the night before. It was one of those days.

As we waited at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, Gay and I took a walk to people watch. We went from one end of the terminal to the other and back, looking at every gate, every destination, every group of people waiting for their flights.
