A busy but successful week and that means dinner for our club on Tuesday night is going to be a gold or bronze medal winner.
 
Thank you to Denise for standing in for me.

Looking forward to our first Barside Meeting night – Board directors please be ready to meet your committees and plan for up coming events and give some thought to projects you’d like to be involved in or activities that our club can manage. There is quite a number on our agenda already and I will let you know what those are as soon as I have a few more dates and details.

I’m looking forward to hearing from Jordyn who is going to update us on her exchange in Canada.

This Week:
THIS WEEKS ROTARY MEETING
 
Tuesday 06 August 2019  
The format for the evening will be as follows (note – flexibility is the key):
5.45pm Start with socialising
6.15pm Welcome and Starting Thought
6.20pm Dinner and fellowship – 
7.00pm Committee Meetings
 
This allows a time for committees who wish to meet to do so without involving another time commitment during our busy lives. If you don’t need to meet with a particular committee then perhaps jump in and see where you might help others or hear about what they are doing. Have a coffee and enjoy the time.

Liz reported a great turnout on Saturday to help pack supplies for Foster Hope, really nice to see Jordyn helping the team  - we are hoping to see Jordyn at Rotary this week. 
 
RYLA 2020 - Keep your thinking caps on for nominations for 2020 RYLA. Details on the programme are bring released shortly.
 
Rotary Learning Institute 101  - Venue Tawa Fire Station  Sunday 04 August 
Unfortunately, this course has had to be re-scheduled a new date will be announced soon 
 
SAVE THIS DATE - Thursday October 24 is World Polio Day - "Ride the Train"  Palmerston North and Wellington City then up through the Hutt to Masterton. - Details on the way 
 
 
Last Week:
Main speaker - Our guest speaker was Nicola Turner from Enliven. 
Nicola, gave us an update on the aged sector and possible facilities available when you decide to leave your home.
It was interesting and informative and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing about pets and how they manage them in the homes.  Very funny indeed.  Nicola also updated us on Longview and the opportunities available for Tawa Rotary, some I am sure we will be grabbing with open arms.  We have been invited to have our weekly meeting and a meal at Longview in the not too distant future.    
 
3 mins speaker was Des O'Sullivan who told us about his very interesting life and the opportunities he has taken.

Presidential message July 2019

Mark Maloney  -  President 2019-20

I love to travel!   I even enjoy the mundane process of getting from here to there.   But last year, my wife, Gay, and I had one of those experiences that would strain the optimism of even the most cheerful traveler.   We found ourselves with six hours to wait, at an airport where we were not scheduled to be, on a day we had not planned still to be traveling, having woken up that morning at a hotel unknown to us the night before.   It was one of those days.

As we waited at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, Gay and I took a walk to people watch.   We went from one end of the terminal to the other and back, looking at every gate, every destination, every group of people waiting for their flights.
