This week is our inaugural Pride in Work Awards. A great deal of work behind the scenes has gone into this event so I hope you will all come along and support the club in presenting the nominees with their certificates and hearing their citations. We would like to think this event will grow into a biannual celebration of Vocation in the Tawa Rotary Club supported by The Tawa Business Group. 

In asking as many of you to come as possible I would also like to suggest that Rotary members spread themselves through the room and at the tables so at least 2-3 of us ‘host’ a table with the nominees and their nominators also spread through the room. This is an important aspect where we can all play a part in acknowledging the Pride in Work that these people have and we can acknowledge our Pride in Rotary work alongside them. 
I would like to acknowledge the work of the Vocation Committee in putting this event together and especially Don Rushworth and Pat Waite. It has taken quite an amount of ‘driving’ the cause to get the Awards actually happening so well done. And I would also like to thank the Tawa Business Group for their support and sponsorship.

Another great night hosted by President Euan, fantastic company and plenty of laughs.

Not sure how the sweepstakes and prizes ended up but a great night of friendship.

 

A Treasurer’s lot is not a happy one
 (with apologies to Gilbert & Sullivan)

 

At least not all the time, as it’s a case of the good and the bad if you’re the Treasurer of the Rotary Club of Tawa .

It starts with being responsible for the bank accounts. There are four active accounts and a couple of term deposits, each of which are intended to be used for specific moneys – the Club account is used for usual club activities under the oversight of the Board, the Charity account is used for Club grants and donations under the oversight of the Trustees.   But because incorrect bank account are sometimes used for deposits and payments, it pays to keep attentive around the detail in the accounts.

The weekly meetings can provide a particular challenge, with the need to balance moneys paid for meals, for raffles and from the sergeant’s sessions with the money deposited in the bank from the meeting and (randomly) from members.
