From President Richard Welcome back. I have heard some people say that they hope that 2021 will be better than 2020, I just hope that it will be different. Last year gave us some challenges but it also had some positive things. We found out that Zoom is not that bad, that tiled view reminds me of the Muppets, it was noted that people were a bit more engaged, we had an opportunity to get speakers that would have been difficult if they had to physically front up and we were able to keep going while face to face was impossible. This year we have new opportunities for service and fellowship, some interesting speakers, and a few social events. Recent events has meant I have had to redo a part of my President's piece. I would like to acknowledge the passing of Carol Armstrong, Robert's wife. For newer members Robert has been a long standing member of the Rotary Club of Tawa, leaving us only recently when he and Carol moved into the city. Consequently the visit to Karori and the Wrights Hill Tunnels has been postponed until Tuesday 16th February. Carol's funeral will be at St Mary of the Angels in Boulcott Street on Tuesday 26th January starting at 2:00pm. Rotary has as one of its guiding principles that it works towards Peace and Understanding. We begin our 2021 Rotary year with a speaker who exemplifies this principle. Tahir is a high profile speaker so you are encouraged to bring along friends and prospective members that night. Let us make our first night back a big one. Let's all do Rotary together. |
