There is a saying that goes along the lines ‘Life (or maybe I could say Rotary) is what happens to you while you were making other plans’ I have to say it does feel like that at times. Still we are making Rotary Happen, our Book Fair is done, we have helped KCA with some interior decoration, joined Plimmerton for a meeting, we are about to have a presentation on the New Wellington Children’s Hospital and hold our Polio fundraising dinner. Rotary doesn’t just happen it does take planning but it also seems to take on a life of its own, everyone contributes their bit and like a jigsaw the picture is slowly revealed.
We have a couple of challenges this Rotary year, our biggest is around membership, as you know we have had a number of Rotarians leave the club, and the same is true for a number of other clubs in the district, actually it is similar for many service clubs and volunteer organisations. As a board we are working on this, but it is all of us that are responsible for membership, that goes for finding new members and looking after the ones we have.
Our other challenge is around leadership and succession, we need to find a President to follow Karyn and we need to share how Tawa does Rotary so that we can all see where our part of the jigsaw fits. To go with that Committee chairs will be given a 3-5min slot each meeting to explain what is happening in their area.
As a reminder the 28th of November we have Stuff the Trailer with Inner Wheel, I understand that things are well progressed in the organisation of this event so keep some time free to help out and support the local foodbank and make Rotary seen in the Community.
At the recent board meeting we have pretty much filled the calendar through into the early new year, it also looks like the bi-annual visit to Karori will not involve the long trek out to the Makara Golf course but is likely to be a visit to Wright’s Hill (confirmation pending).
