Presidents Piece - 03 sep  2019

It astounds me that this week our country has been gripped by a disease that is, in large, preventable. While Rotarian's assisted by humanitarians world wide work to rid the planet of an insidious disease our own population struggles to ensure our citizens are free from measles.
A simple and effective solution exists and yet people ignore the opportunity or worse still choose to not vaccinate. Obviously there a cases where vaccination is not recommended (in the case of transplant or other illnesses) but to choose not to protect your own children and thereby the rest of our community is in my mind selfish and arrogant. Frankly I think it is time more agencies and yes the government made it mandatory before acceptance into the education facilities of this country.
This week is the second of our Barside meetings – the opportunity to spend time talking to your fellow Rotarian's and for the club to discuss projects past, present and upcoming without having to make other times in all our busy schedules. The Board meeting will follow at 7.30pm. As a reminder I invite all of you to attend at least one Board meeting in this year to find out how the club ‘ticks’.

I look forward to welcoming back Past District Governor Martin and Past President Denise after a sad and stressful time with Martins father passing away. Please accept my personal and the clubs condolences to you both and your family.

Yours in Rotary,

Judith

Last Tuesday, 27th August, our guest speakers was  Matt Strawbridge.
It was a pleasure to have Matt attend our meeting and give us an overview on his journey with Dyslexia. He used his personality and humour to get his message across on the challenges and opportunities he has had.  It was a great evening and we all learnt a lot about Dyslexia. We wish Matt all the best for the future.

Presidential Message August 2019

Mark Maloney  -  President 2019-20

During 2019-2020, I am encouraging Rotarians and Rotaractors to grow Rotary.   We must grow our service, we must grow the impact of our projects, but, most importantly, we must grow our membership so that we can achieve more.

Let us try a new approach to membership, one that is more organized and strategic.   I am asking every club to form an active membership committee consisting of people of different backgrounds who will look methodically at the leadership of the community.
