Last week our Speaker was Kevin Alkema who explained to us the development taking place at Kenepuru Landing. Kenepuru Landing is being built on some 60 hectares of Ngati Toa land which was previously part of Porirua Hospital. Kevin is project manager for the Carrus Group, the company developing the Kenepuru Landing subdivision, and also the earlier Aotea Block development in Porirua.
Kevin described the development as a brown-field rather than green-field development as there were a large number of existing services and facilities to be worked around or removed (including many unknown). And a number of old Porirua Hospital structures have had to be demolished. Te Rito Gardens are being relocated to a new reserve site to the north of the development site off Rahia Street.
A range of density dwellings is proposed, with density generally increasing closer to the Porirua City Centre. Stage 1 of some 150 dwellings will soon be ready to start building on. A Summerset retirement village complex on 6 hectares will also contain nearly 300 dwellings.
We also heard from Richard Hutchison as the three-minute speaker about his experience with E-Scooters, and Des O'Sullivan did the honours for the sergeant session.
