First woman takes office as President of Rotary International
EVANSTON, Ill. (June 29, 2022) – Jennifer Jones, member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, will be the first woman to take office as Rotary International President in the service organization’s 117-year existence on 1 July 2022.

What a great evening was had by the 30 or so members and guests on Tuesday evening, after a lovely meal (not pizza!) we heard from Dame Kerry Prendergast on her exploits and reflections of walking the Te Araroa Trail, joined by her husband and grand daughter, she shared the good, bad and somewhat dangerous activities she faced across the 3000km journey – ending with the statement ‘no more long walks in NZ!” She does have further adventures planned overseas though!
I was also very honoured to be part of the awarding Malcolm Sparrow his Paul Harris Fellowship. It was humbling to read the impact and lasting legacy he has made to the Tawa community. From his time as a club member, to his commitment and participation on the Community Board and of course as a Wellington City Counsellor. He was joined by his wife Karen to receive the award.
Well done to Elizabeth Sutton who won the raffle this week – kindly donated by Nada Bakery (and it was a sizable box!).
I would like to acknowledge several members that have decided to step down from the club. These are Brian Frampton, Kevin Walker and Louise Munro. Can I take this opportunity to thank you before the club for your service and contribution. I know you will all stay connected and on behalf of the Club wish you the very best.
Now on Tuesday 26 July, we have an indoor bowling evening planned at the club - with a simple fish and chip/sausage evening ($15pp) so please let us know if you are coming so that we order enough and have enough mats! – bring a friend for a fun evening….it’s not ten pin I’m told!

Thankyou to Shona Heyward for beautiful hand-kniited beanies (second lot) total 21 and Karyn Meade for boxes of gorgeous kiddies winter blankets, beautifully sewn. Pajamas donated from the pajama drive run in conjunction with New World Tawa.

After a series of setbacks due to COVID and engine availability we are pleased to advise that Ride the Train to End Polio is take place on Sunday 4 September 2022 (Fathers Day) departing Paekakariki at 7.50am to Taihape return.
The train will be stopping at Levin, Palmerston North and Marton, and people can join at those locations. The cost is $160 per person, and bookings can be made through Event Pronto, the link is as follows:
We will provide regular newsletters to those that have booked, including a timetable, and events. A commemorative one-off T-shirt is being finalised, and we will provide details on this and how it can be ordered shortly.
This is a great opportunity to promote the work of Rotary, and have a trip on a steam train, so please spread the word amongst friends and relatives so that they can have the opportunity to take part.
