Hi all
Hope you’ve all had a great week. Was a great social night at Liz’s on Tuesday, nice and relaxed, with good weather, food and company, including guests from Inner Wheel, and Lions.
Everyone seemed to be having such as good time no one wanted to leave, so the night went later than normal – which is always a sign of a good night, and the other bonus of course is that we raised some funds for polio. Thanks again for your hospitality and organisation Liz.
This week’s meeting we are changing things up a bit. We have a Special General Meeting prior to our speaker Greg O’Connor arriving (more on that later in the bulletin), and the results from the member survey we ran recently.
Everyone should have received a copy of the Agenda, with the financials, budgets etc – I’m sure we’ll have a few hard copies on the night if required.
Because we have so much to get through, we’ll be having the meal at 7pm, when our speaker arrives and will be starting his presentation once the meal is over (planned for 7.40 but will commence earlier if we can) and still aiming to finish just after 8pm as normal.
Quick notes from the Board
- Thanks to those who attended the meeting for Party in the Plaza – more volunteers always welcome, and we will be calling for help on the day. Pls see Judith Gray for info.
- This Friday is the Milk Bank Ball. Denise and her team have done a geat job organising what will be an awesome night. There may still be a few tickets left, so pls see Denise if you want to join us.
- Next week we have our Pride in Work awards – Pat has this well under control, and with 8 recipients, it’s great to see this event growing across our community. It will be an inspiring night. We’re spiffing up the meal on the night as it’s such an occasion, so meal cost next week will be $30 each.
Network Happenings
I attended the monthly network meeting with the other presidents in our area on Thursday. This time, we had DG Mark Wheeler in attendance.
He was very interested to hear what’s happening in the clubs and used the opportunity to talk about how Rotary is looking at changing to meet the changes in our world.
Tony Heyward has been involved in many of the discussions on this and the key focus is on the leadership and structures of Districts, District Governors, Assistant Governors etc.
The other key discussion point was the changes to the Incorporated Society’s Act, which takes effect in November and may have a considerable effect on smaller clubs who’s membership numbers don’t meet the minimum required to be recognised as an Incorporated Society.
We’re organising a meeting for him to present this info to us in the early new year, in conjunction with Johnsonville Rotary.
Fundraising opportunity
Also discussed at the Network meeting was fundraising for the Regional Childrens’ Hospital. Rotary has had a large number of packets of sanitizing wipes donated. There are 24 packets in a box, and the box sells for $25. (so about $1.05 per packet). We were planning on selling these at Spring into Tawa, but as this has now been cancelled are looking at other opportunities.
The requirement is that we return $25 per box for the Reginal Hospital. BUT, any thing more we make, we can choose how to use – I.e. selling the packs at $3 each or 2 for $5 provides us with additional funding that we can use for our club projects, or donate towards national projects such as the Childrens’ Hospital, or the vaccine programme in the pacific – Give Every Child a Future. If anyone would like to purchase a box, some packets, or has suggestions for ways in which we could sell these as fundraisers, pls let us know.
Pat has brought back a car full of boxes from Taranaki, and talked to a number of you on Tuesday at the Polio dinner.
I think he even managed to make a few cheeky sales!! I’ll bring a packet on Tuesday so you can have a look and feel, and let us know if you want to purchase any for yourselves.
We ‘re looking for suggestions for how to best use these, and any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Some things to consider would be if we want to just sell for a profit, if we want to purchase some as a club, and then donate, or a mix of both.
Have a great week everyone
