Hi all,

 

Another wet weekend – the temperature is dropping and i’m starting to see the tell tale signs that my neighbours are using their fires and woodburners – at least it’s starting to reduce the number of blooming flies that have seemed to be everywhere in their thousands the past few months!

 

Was great to get people back into the bowling club on Tuesday – it was a very different format than we’re used to, but was productive and a good time was had, getting crafty and enjoying each other’s company and potluck dinner contributions as we made book bags for part of a literacy project set up by Elaine Harris to encourage parents to read to their babies in the neonatal unit

 

While we value our mix of genders in the club, it was funny to see all the men sitting at one table having dinner, and the women standing around another table  having their meal. The gender split continued in to the men cutting and ironing the fabric, while the ladies were on the sewing machines 😊

 

While it took us a while to get going and a big thanks to Mary and Richard Hutchinson who did some emergency trips back home to get bits and pieces we were missing, the men were able to cut out over 50 pieces of material to be sewn into book bags for the neo-nates.  The women eventually figured out what we were doing and managed to convert about 7 of those cutouts into actual bags, but most of the ladies have taken some home to continue working on them and I understand that a get together for another sewing night is being organised – which given we have 250 of them to make, may become a regular thing.  I know there were some keen people who were unable to make it on Tuesday, so if you’re keen to make some ata home, or join the group nightsm please contact Denise Garcia.

 

Thanks to Mary and also Patricia Cashman for joining us for the evening, and for everyone turning up with great food and a great attitude to doing something a bit different.

Unfortunately we chose not to open this as part of the potluck as we already had plenty of food open, already, so leaving it unopened means it will last longer and if you see John looking a bit more rotund than normal you’ll know he’s since enjoyed it 😊

 

While we’ve been working on alternating formal with informal meetings over this past year, we’ll be having a slightly different ratio over the next 6 week or so, largely due to speaker availability, and timings of social events outside our control, so pls check the calendar on the website, or in the bulletins so you’re up to date with the planned events.

 

This week is our first formal night;  with the plan being to have an SGM to announce the Board and for our incoming President Asghar presenting his plan for the year.
