Bigger than polio

Pakistan’s female vaccinators are doing more than helping end a disease

Women make up two-thirds of Pakistan’s polio workforce. It’s a startling statistic for a nation that ranks 145th out of 146 countries for gender parity in economic participation and opportunity, according to a World Economic Forum gender inequality index.

The role of female vaccinators is born of necessity. Because of cultural norms, men are not allowed into many people’s homes in Pakistan. Women who provide the health care are the key link. They can build mom-to-mom relationships and provide trusted advice on not only polio but other health issues.

Sanitise and Stay Wise

New World Easter Promotion BBQ 30 March 2023

Thursday’s wind and rain made little difference to a select band of intrepid Rotarians on 30 March this year. At various times from 2pm until 6pm, Elizabeth Sutton, Gaylene Lines, Tim Davin, John Melville, Judith Havill and Tony Heyward cooked sausages and onions, placed them on sliced bread, added tomato and mustard sauce and sold them to the shoppers at New World.

Not only did their efforts reduce the stock of sausages left from the Concert in the Park, their efforts also raised a further $243 for the Club. Well done those Rotarians.

President Joe - Update

Hope you have had a good week – the weather has been awful……anyone would think it is winter! (I even lit a fire!).

This weekend I spent some time with other presidents from across the District with a discussion on what we have been doing and membership. Some good thinking and ideas for the future that I will share with the Board to see where we can leverage locally.

Apologies for all the email/notices on Tuesdays meeting, but we had to re-arrange at very short notice due to speaker changes – I am sure you understand and hope you can attend, We have opened it up to other local clubs and of course Inner Wheel, so hoping for a good turnout.

In terms of stuff coming up in the near future:

11 April: social evening (quiz night at the bowling club with fish and chips)

15 April: Wilf Mexted Reserve Working bee – TBC and weather dependent!

18 April: Building HOPE – telling the story

23 April: Cringeworthy – Swinging 60’s, Circa Theatre (See Liz Sutton for tickets @$45 each)

25 April: ANZAC Day – no meeting

Cringeworthy the 60s:

We have 50 tickets reserved for Cringeworthy on Sunday 23 April 6pm.

Tickets $45 each. We have the chance to meet the cast afterwards.

About a year ago we went to Cringeworthy in the 70s, and it was a great show and a great success.
