Monday last week, a team from the club supported Porirua and Plimmerton Clubs to host the Porirua Primary School Leadership Awards to recognise young leaders in our community there were many schools represented including Tawa and Linden Schools, with pupils receiving their awards from her Worship, Anita Baker, Mayor for Porirua and Marylin Stevens our District Governor. The event was a fabulous mix of singing, celebrations, reflections on life journeys and photos! With over 400 people it was very busy – great to be part of this. Next year it would be great to see more Tawa schools participating!
Last Sunday Pat attended the online graduation of the IYM graduates. There were eight working groups amongst the 40 students with each team was given 5 minutes to present on topics of their interest across following: Safehouse (winner) – focus on healthy rental properties using an APP, Public safety – focus on safer driving, Education – alternative teaching methods for identified students, Energy gardens – providing food and energy from the soil, Medicine against misogyny (winner) – an online feedback tool for women feeling they had not been listened to or felt prejudiced against by their GP, Water pollution – looking to clean waterways by using paving, Efficient transport systems and Buses – GPS tracking systems. The winners were both rated as ones that could be taken further. We sponsored Trinisha Patel from Tawa on the programme, who will be invited to attend a future meeting to give us some feedback.
On Tuesday evening we heard from District Governor Elect Wayne Gordon about the proposed regionalisation project ahead of the club vote during September. It was exciting to have Johnsonville, Mt Victoria and Karori clubs represented as well as several Area Governors in partnership with us. The presentation covered the background to the proposed change, what it will mean for us and the opportunities that could flow if we choose to vote ‘Yes’ for the pilot. So, in a nutshell, what we are being asked to consider is if we would be willing to ‘pilot’ doing things differently. The details of what it will look like and what this will mean will be defined by us as members – but only if the vote (in September) is yes. So, in the next few weeks the Board will be looking to have a discussion with you all on how Tawa wants to move forward collectively. There are further votes at District, Regional and international levels that will ultimately determine the decision – but we need to play our part!
Pat and others recently had a good meeting with WCC on the proposed Peace Labyrinth, and with an ‘in principle’ agreement, has presented a proposal for the Board to have a think about how we might deliver this exciting development for Tawa.
This Tuesday, evening we have Marsha Chiet, local Educator from the life Education Trust North Wellington attending.

Marsha is a dynamic and inspiring speaker – feedback on her talks with other service organisations has been very positive. This will be an opportunity to find out what the needs of the Tawa community are amongst the schools in the area and the North Wellington region. She will cover the topics explored and share the approach Life Education takes to equip our young people with the strategies, tools and knowledge to make positive choices.

After a series of setbacks due to COVID and engine availability we are pleased to advise that Ride the Train to End Polio is take place on Sunday 4 September 2022 (Fathers Day) departing Paekakariki at 7.50am to Taihape return.
The train will be stopping at Levin, Palmerston North and Marton, and people can join at those locations. The cost is $160 per person, and bookings can be made through Event Pronto, the link is as follows:
