Rotary statement on recent polio detections in U.S., Europe
The recent detection of the vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2 case in New York, USA, and isolates in several environmental samples collected in London are stark reminders that as long as polio exists anywhere, it is a threat everywhere.

I hope you managed to practice some te reo during te wiki o te reo Maori (Maori Language week) using some new kupu (words).
Last weekend I spent some time with the other clubs in our network hosted by Area Governor Kay Phillips and attended by District Governor Marylin Stephens. It was good to hear what the other clubs are doing, but reflection Tawa it is definitely up there in terms of activity and scope. So, thank you for all that’s being done. Of course, if you want to get involved more or invite someone to get involved with one of our projects just reach out to the board members.
On Tuesday evening Nolette Mathews came along from Longview Home and shared some of her reflections on the challenges the home has, and continues to face, and how together we might be able to support and work alongside in a more meaningful way. She described a range of activities (talking to residents, presentations, recreation activities, feeding residents, van driving, outings etc.) that could be filled though volunteering and some of the novel ways to support orientation (video etc.). She also described a range of outdoor projects like planter boxes, awnings etc. Finally, she shared some thoughts on equipment needs. Nolette will come back to us with more details but if you can help……feel free to contact Nolette at Longview.
Judith Havill was the winner of a bag of goodies from Nada Bakery (thanks team!) and well done to Judith on a ‘rare’ win she confessed!

We will have our IYM candidate (Trinisha) come and share for 10 mins and then a very brief discussion on the proposal to pilot a different way of working in our Region – all the materials have been previously circulated and so the purpose will be to agree how Tawa Rotary should vote.

The District AGM will be held, as last year, by Zoom at 10.00am on Sunday 20th November. The Quorum for this meeting will be 21 Clubs represented by Officers or a Member holding a Proxy vote (details on Proxy voting will be circulated in late October).
The District Conference will start on the evening of Friday 17 March 2023, at Nga Manu Nature Reserve in Waikanae, and continue through Saturday 18th and Sunday 18th March at Southwards Car Museum.

I've agonised over whether or not to share this with you all, and eventually decided you could ignore it if you weren't interested. So, please feel free to do that.
Most of you know about my daughter Lauren and her medical complexity. One element of her care which has been difficult to manage and fund is transporting her, and our two aging cars are at the end of their lives. This Give-a-little page, set up by a friend, is hoping to make transport a bit easier.
None of us are on crazy big salaries, and I want you to know I don't expect donations, but I'd really appreciate it if you would consider sharing this on your social networks, or emailing to friends who could be interested.
