Environment Month

A warming world adds peril for a way of life

For centuries, the Yörük people of southern Turkey have trekked up and down the rugged Taurus Mountains.

When the hot Mediterranean summer begins to dry out the vegetation that feeds their sheep and goats, Yörük families migrate with their animals to the grassy highlands.

Then, just before the first snows, they return to spend the cooler season farming in the coastal plains. They eat what they grow, and at outdoor markets, they sell honey, goat milk and cheeses, livestock, and the bright wool kilim rugs they make.

President Joe - Update
Kia ora all

It was great to have Ray Harkness from Wander Search on Tuesday to hear about his escapades and his ingenious ways of making things work!

What a great tool to have that will put families at ease for those who are inclined to wander and get lost. It will be even better when Government steps in and makes it more affordable in the next we while for those at risk.

Congratulations to Russell who won the raffle kindly donated by Judith at Nada Bakery (get your award winning hot cross buns before they are all gone!!!!)

We all know this weekend is Easter, and whatever your belief or faith it’s a special time – if you are able, it’s time to spend with whānau, relax and reflect. It’s such a hopeful time of year, and I wish you every good thing for the break, may you have a blessed day and your Kete be filled with joy, happiness, and peace.

This weekend I am heading to the Manawatu to volunteer at the Central Easter Camp with 1,800 teenagers (oh dear!) but it will be awesome as Judith and my twins (Fraser and Ailis) are volunteers too – so I will get some whānau time while working. I hope the final day of the fishing comp at Foxton will be on (and I might be able to escape for a while).

Activities this month:
11 April: No meeting (I forgot it was Judith’s 60th so I am in the bad books!)
15 April: Wilf Mexted Reserve Working bee – in the morning and weather dependent! – Richard will put a note out on whatsapp
18 April: Building HOPE – telling the story (then a Board meeting)
23 April: Cringeworthy – Swinging 60’s, Circa Theatre (See Liz Sutton for tickets @$45 each)
25 April: ANZAC Day – no meeting

Action Plan

As People of Action, we understand that fulfilling that vision requires a plan.
More than a century ago, we pioneered a new model of service leadership grounded in person-to-person connections. Today, those connections are a network that spans the globe—bridging cultural, linguistic, generational, and geographic barriers—and shares the vision of a better world. As People of Action, we understand that fulfilling that vision requires a plan.
