Kia ora everyone
What can I say, the evening at the bowling club was great fun! there was much hilarity, terrible jokes and puns, fellow members distracting and influencing the high standard of bowling under the watchful eye of Tony H. At the end of the evening there were chocolate prizes for the most improved and best shots of the night. Needless to say, I ended up with the wooden spoon (and won’t mention my partner who shares the accolade!). The fish, chips and sausages went down a storm! A bit like the weather…
On things Rotary, Gaylene, Karyn and I met with Andrew Savage, Principal at Tawa College, to do some introductions, share the Rotary student programs and look to get him connected to the club.
On that note, we have had contact from Tawa Lions to have our annual joint meeting that we will get on with organising.
This weekend, Karyn will be attending the first Rotary Kapiti-Horowhenua network meeting in Porirua and will no doubt provide some feedback on the discussions and decisions made.
Next Sunday is our monthly meet and greet at the Sprig and Fern (4pm) again invite any chums along………..
Pat has been continuing to explore and consider the development of the Labyrinth Peace Walk by arranging discussions and having view of other sites. Great news that we were given a District Grant towards the Wilf Mexted signage project that coincides with the planning!
For the Peace Labyrinth the committee of Denise, Gaylene, Richard Herbert and me are meeting Wellington Council Park Ranger this coming week to look at location options.
Next the Tawa Lookout, Phil Harland whose project this was, has delivered the project files and will be talking with WCC on this when we meet this week. Plan is to organize a working bee to trim the shrubs around the lookout, general tidy up. When it opened in 2005, Rotary organized with the Tawa Historical Society a community walk with some 200 walkers….perhaps another idea for early 2023?
It looks like that we have a bookfair venue!!! Still working on details and still planned for October/November!
Looking forward to this Tuesday, we have the Mayor of Porirua, Anita Baker, talking at the club. Please invite family and friends as I am sure she will be inspirational, informative and entertaining.
In the weeks ahead we are preparing for the Primary School Leadership awards as well as our other guest speakers – don’t forget to invite your friends and neighbours!
23 August: Ross Churchill and his special dog will be presenting on the amazing things dogs can do to support educational learning in children. All tawa school principals (primary, intermediate and college) and their teams have been invited
