Update from Karyn: Hi all We had an entertaining zoom debate last week, albeit with some pretty dodgy judging, but I think the overall winner on the night was fellowship and just the chance to catch up with people. Was good to have Mok join us from Timor Leste again, welcome back Ken Pearson as our ‘secret’ judge and to catch up with Robert Armstrong who’s laid up in hospital, but now enjoying being able to have visitors. This week we get back to take it a step further with a real, in person meeting. We have an interesting speaker in Lisa from the Porirua club joining us, and it will be great to see everyone in person. Of course we’ll have to change things up a bit, so we will require masks when we’re not eating or drinking, we’ll have to distance, and we’ll have a plated meal service rather than the standard buffet. Some quick update: - Thanks for all that have responded to the survey, we’ll shut it down shortly and come back to you with the results. - The sewing bee is kicking off this week with a meeting on Monday at Karyn’s place, 7.30 if anyone want to join us.
- Numbers are coming in for the Pride in Work awards, which is looking to be a great night.
- Next week we have the deferred service night at Free For All in Auty St, Porirua. The 21st is their last night in their old shop, so there will be some work to finish moving them over, cleaning up the old place and preparing the new shop to be opened. 6pm start with fish and chips after - $10 for the food and drink – the service and fellowship we get for free 😊
- With colleges and schools requiring masks, we’re following on from a Porirua initiative and donating masks to Tawa College – having spoken to Murray Lucas, it’s definitely an issue for number of families, so will, be good to be able to help them
Our Interact Club is looking for help as below: if anyone can help, pls contact Reihaan at The Interact club will be executing a carnival at our school. The aim is to raise money for BeyondWater - an organisation that looks at providing clean drinking water and sanitation facilities for schools in Kenya. We were wondering whether Rotary has any connections with people or companies that would be willing to sponsor us, including Rotary? We are needing donations for 3 prize packages. Students will be paying for tickets and trying their luck at different carnival games. If they are successful, rather than having single prizes we give them an entry into the draw to win one of 3 prize packages. |
