THIS WEEKS EVENTS
NOTICES:

Thanks to all that attended the Rotary end of year Christmas BBQ function and thanks for Liz for hosting us.  It was a great relaxing occasion to end the year.

This was the final Rotary Tawa event for 2018 and this is also the last Bulletin for 2018.   The next Bulletin later in January will advise of the programme for the early part of 2019.   In the meantime if over the holidays you have an idea for a speaker or activity or project you would like Rotary Tawa to be involved with please pass on to president Denise.

On behalf of the Club and President Denise, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and safe travels.

OTHER NOTICES:

The Meals on Wheels organisation are looking for additional drivers to fill-in over the Christmas period for while some of their regular drivers are away.   There are sixteen meals delivered to Tawa which need to be picked up from Kenepuru Hospital at 10.30 am, and other runs available for Plimmerton-Pukerua Bay, Whitby, and Titahi Bay.   Generally just 1-2 hours per day on days that you are available.   Please contact the MOW area co-ordinator Karen Cope if you can help, at copefamily@xtra.co.nz  or 0272300867.

Toot 4 Tucker 2018
Toot 4 Tucker 2018.

Another successful Toot4Tucker Foodbank appeal was run on Tuesday and Thursday last week.   This is a major Rotary community project involving Tawa service and business organisations to collect non-perishable food and donations for Foodbank, particularly as there’s high demand for Foodbank supplies over Christmas and New Year.

The results from this year’s Toot4Tucker Foodbank collection:

Cash donations:  $1195.80

Food items:         approx. 4490

We are publishing the results along with a thank you to Tawa community – watch out for the post this week on our Facebook page.

Our thanks go out to all of the volunteers who helped us with driving/collecting and supporting this year’s Toot4Tucker collection for Tawa Foodbank:

  • Tawa Volunteer Fire Brigade
  • Salvation Army including their youth group
  • Tawa Lions
  • Tawa Scouts
  • Tawa Cubs (collected in Redwood Village)
  • Tawa Baptist Youth Group
  • Community Patrol
  • One Agency
  • Tawa New World
  • Tawa Inner Wheel
  • Tawa Rotarians and their families

Thanks to Laura Sommer and Allister McDonald for organising this year's event, who would also welcome your feedback on this year’s project to consider what went well and what can be improved for next year.   It would be great if you could also share any other photos you have taken from the collections.

Presidential Message December-2018

President 2018-19 Barry Rassin

Barry Rassin President 2018-19

It's traditional that the first Rotarian magazine of the Rotary year carries a profile of the incoming RI president and his or her family.   I've always read those profiles with interest, never giving much thought to the possibility that one day, I might be the one bringing a writer from the magazine to my Rotary club meeting!   I have never liked a lot of attention, and the idea of having my picture on the magazine cover made me a bit uncomfortable.   But when I saw the photo the editors chose, I smiled.   Because the star of that picture definitely isn't me, or even my wife, Esther.   It's the flock of flamingos, none of which could care less about Rotary, all strutting past us in the same direction.   All of them — except one.
