Hi all, so here we all are in lockdown again – and, I suspect, for the next few weeks, given the numbers, the locations, and just how close Delta has come to home.
Many of us, including myself will know someone who’s been required to isolate, which makes it more real and scary.
So Tuesday’s announcement was bit disruptive to the meeting. We delayed things a bit to listen to the PM’s announcement, then our speaker was summonsed to a Parliamentary briefing and was delayed, then cancelled, and our new member Judy, who as you’re all aware has been on the front line with the vaccines from day 1, was also delayed and had to cancel – missing her own induction.
We made the best of it, had an impromptu quiz and found out a bit more about some of our members and called it an early night, so people could get home, get to the supermarket and sort out anything else they needed to.
So, obviously, our schedule for the next week(s) will have to change, and until we have some certainty around dates, we’ll have to continue being flexible.
Fingers crossed, that we can come out of this sooner rather than later with some really important events such as the Building Hope Lunch and the Milk Bank Fundraiser potentially at risk.
After tomorrow’s announcement, we’ll get the board together (virtually of course) and start on a bit of a plan and let you all know how we’re looking at dealing with the changing situation.
Schedule Changes:
- Monday night’s stitch and bitch session at Frances Burros’ house, which was to have started tomorrow - deferred until we can reschedule
- Tuesday 24 Aug - working bee at Free For All deferred until a later date
- Tuesday 31 Aug – TBA
Other things to be aware of:
Please complete the survey this week if you havent’ yet done so – thanks to those that have completed it. ALL the feedback is valuable
We’ve had a request from Heretaunga Club for any CD player that are available to be sent to Tonga along with books and other items they ship.
Wanting to help?
We’ve had a request from KCA to help with food pickups from the back part of local supermarkets – shifts are 8am – 12pm Monday to Friday over the next week(s) while we’re in lockdown. It’s a physical role and you will need to be able to lift and sort boxes of food, up to 15-20 kgs. Full PPE gear will be provided. If you’re able to help, pls email
tracy@kca.org.nz ASAP
In terms of other ways we can help others over this time, I know many of us are still working, or are vulnerable themselves, so may not have the option, but if anyone is keen, or has any ideas, pls share with the wider group – WhatsApp would be perfect for that.
I know last time some members were sewing masks, and others were delivering prescriptions for the pharmacy – if anyone is keen to organise this, or maybe some grocery shopping for people, please, let us know.
Finally, PLEASE if anyone needs any help, someone to shop for them, or even just to talk to, then reach out. Sometimes we don’t even realise the stress that this whole situation is putting us under, and there is no shame in asking for help - we have emails, WhatsApp, and telephones – heck, we can even go and stand outside someone’s house and have a conversation from the footpath to the front door. We could get creative and organise to go to the supermarket at the same time and join the queue after each other, just to have a conversation with familiar (albeit masked) face. Please just ask.
Stay safe everyone
Cheers
