Hi everyone. Into April already, and nearly Easter already – the southerly that’s come though the past few days is a definite reminder that winter is on it’s way, so great timing for the Foster Hope pyjama drive down at New World.

It was nice to catch up with some of our members at Liz’ place on Friday night for the start of this year’s District Conference. About 13 of us (Rotarians and partners) met up for a drink and to watch the presentations, followed by dinner and socialising.

This week we have another zoom meeting with Chris Wilkinson, Managing Director, First Retail group as our speaker. Members of the Tawa Business Group have also been invited so there may be some new faces on the screen.

Meetings going forward?
As Covid numbers are decreasing, and Covid restrictions are decreasing, it’s probably a good time to start thinking about when we want to resume our normal practices of meeting in person. Obviously, we will need to provide notice to the bowling club and caterer, so it won’t be an instant decision.
I’m keen to get a feel from everyone as to whether we look at early May to return, or if we want to wait another month- Please let karyn know via

As previously advised. We need to have at least 18 in attendance to make the meeting viable for the caterer, so that will be a factor into how we proceed.
Requests to manage and staff the Mary Potter Street Appeal Saturday 21 May
We’ve been approached to see if we can coordinate and staff the annual Mary Potter Hospice collection at New World Tawa.
If anyone is available to run this and coordinate Rotarians to do 1-2 hour shifts through the day, please advise

District Raffle
All the tickets we as a club had been allocated to sell, have now been sold. Thanks to all those that have bought tickets for the raffle.
We’ve received the following from Gaylene Hughes thanking all members for their efforts and providing an update on progress and plans.
With just four weeks to go before the raffle is drawn, I thought I’d reach out personally, with a very big thank you.
Many Clubs have embraced the raffle as an opportunity to really make a difference despite Covid being in our community, because so many other fundraisers have had to be cancelled. This is a practical chance for service. Several Clubs have even asked for additional books which has been most welcome! 😊
As a “grand finale” we are hoping you may be able to identify at least one larger business within your area that may like to take up the “Corporate Challenge” to match what some generous businesses have already done: the purchase of 10 books for $1,000
In addition to potentially winning some amazing prizes, these businesses will go into a draw to win a massive 4.5 block of Toblerone chocolate. This will be a sweet deal for a team building exercise when won (if the business owner chooses to share, of course!)
What’s fantastic to know is that every $10 ticket sold from now on is pure profit and has the potential to count toward a Rotary District grant, which is absolutely fantastic!

Passing of former member Bryan Lerwill
We received the following email from David Watt of Karori Rotary last Monday
Early and older members of Tawa Rotary will remember with respect and good friendship Bryan Lerwill a past member of Tawa Rotary who passed away last Friday on the Kapiti Coast, aged 89. Death notice in today’s Dom Post. Funeral this Wednesday.
