Rotary projects around the globe

March 2023

Peru

This month the Rotary Club of Chincha is scheduled to unveil a new addition to a shelter that houses vulnerable girls ages 5 to 17 in the Ica region. The girls, some of whom have been abandoned by their families or are victims of abuse, “need a lot of psychological help,” says Mónica Avilés Calderón, a past club president. The club completed the first building, with a capacity of 30 residents, in 2000. Soon the number of girls living in the shelter more than doubled.

President Joe - Update
Kia ora all

I hear that the concert in the park was a roaring success – even though the weather let us down a little, and that the RYLA candidate reflections were a hit. My apologies but I have been incapacitated with Covid-19 again! (even more fitting that Prof Michael Baker is coming to talk on the 21st!).

This week we are having an evening cutting material in preparation for the next round of bag sewing for books – so if you are up for it, we are meeting at 7pm just for an hour ….bring your scissors!

NOTICES:

Concert in the Park Update:

Thankyou to all Rotarians who participated last Sunday at the Concert in the Park.  For some, it was a long day with the stage arriving at 7.30am to a beautiful autumn morning.
After that, a lot of behind the scenes with collection of gazebos, chairs, barbeque setup, etc,  thankyou.

Unfortunately the good weather did not last until the end of the concert, but did not seem to dampen the spirits of some hardy concert goers sheltering under the trees and being entertained by the Jive Bombers.

At the end there was a great team effort dismantling wet gazebos, clearing rubbish, returning gear.  Thankyou.

A great club effort overall and one that certainly has raised the profile of Tawa Rotary.

Ian, Denise, Lyn and Elizabeth will have a debrief meeting to see what areas could be done better, differently etc, as they are keen to make this an annual event.  Any thoughts or suggestions you might have, please share with them, remembering that the concept of the Concert was to make it simple, enjoyable and affordable for all families.

A lot of the prep work has been done for future concerts.

We estimated the attendance at about 1,000, which obviously thinned out when the heavens opened.

Great PR work by Ian, thankyou.

Action Plan

As People of Action, we understand that fulfilling that vision requires a plan.
More than a century ago, we pioneered a new model of service leadership grounded in person-to-person connections. Today, those connections are a network that spans the globe—bridging cultural, linguistic, generational, and geographic barriers—and shares the vision of a better world. As People of Action, we understand that fulfilling that vision requires a plan.
