The Political Landscape in 2022

As our end-of year guest speaker, The Honorable Peter Dunne CNZM presented his observations of the political landscape and covered a wide canvas of the political parties, COVID impacts, Health reforms, Housing and the Economy.

Having served 33 years in Parliament and having now retired and taken up a role as a Political Commentator, Peter was able to deliver to us a very interesting presentation on the year ahead. He commented on the current polls which see the Prime Minister’s popularity diminishing, the challenges still ahead in managing COVID in its various forms and the need for the current Government to make significant “hits”, as in results, during Year #2 of its tenure. The elections in 2023 will reflect the changes we are seeing now in the political landscape – new leadership of the National Party, wavering tolerance of COVID restrictions, and controversial proposals such as the 3 Waters legislation.

With QA valuations being received this week, everyone in Tawa will be witnessing the steep rise in property valuations, up 60% in many cases. This will see further intensification in the wider Wellington area, including Tawa – and a huge hurdle for first time house buyers.
