Hi all,
Well it’s been a big week in our house – I had my entire team down from Akld for a few days, so busy running workshops and social events with them – which unfortunately meant I missed Tuesday’s meeting, but it was great to have the entire team together after so long – a number of us had only met over screens and phones, so the dynamics of having everyone in the same room was really productive on both the work front as well as the team bonding – left me shattered though, it’s been a long time since i’ve done those tye of events and had to be ‘on’ for 8+ hours a day.
Then we had the milestone of Jordyn turning 21 on Friday, 31/2 years after heading off to Canada on the Youth Exchange Programme. Time has flown, she’ll finish Uni this year then heads off to Teacher’s College. We’re still in touch with Olivia the last student the club hosted, and she too is finishing up her degree, in Kinesiology.
The girls were so lucky to have the experience, and get home when they did, before the world went into lockdown. While a few of the last group of kids that were heading off on their trip of a lifetime, were able to remain in their host countries - most either had it cut short or cancelled altogether. I wonder what the future of the Youth Exchange Programme is now, in our new world?
In other news this week, I attended my last President’s Network meeting – not really a meeting, but a dinner. Kath Beattie is finishing her term as AG, and looking forward to some more downtime. She’s been a great help for me as a new president, along with the ladies from Plimmerton and Porirua. Porirua is moving
under Mana Tangata and looking forward to their new chapter in Rotary
We had reached out to Tawa College to see if we can provide some support after the recent incidents, and have had a positive response from the new Principal, so we’re currently organising some time to meet up and see how we can provide assistance.
Unfortunately, we’ve had to cancel this week’s planned visit to the Thistle Inn for a wine tasting event, due to low numbers. So there will be no meeting this week.
Next week of course is Changeover, where I get to hand over the role to Joe Asghar. Please ensure you RSVP, and advise if you’re bringing a partner or guest, so we have numbers sorted for catering.

Request from Hutt Valley Rotary
The Rotary Club of Hutt Valley held a fundraiser event yesterday to assist Ukrainian refugees who are now in Finland. The event was sold out, with a lengthy waiting list.
However, many people have also been asking them 'how can I help'? They’ve advised that anyone interested, could help by making a donation to the link below and you can be sure your donation will end up where it is needed.
The club is working closely with District 1390 in Finland which is supplying food, shelter, clothing and money to help the mainly women and children refugees on the ground in Finland.
If you would like to help please click this link to donate $25 or more if you can. Every dollar donated will end up helping refugees.
