H all,
A quieter week for me on the publicity front, no presentations this week. However a good night at Free For All for about a dozen of us on Tuesday night, helping them prepare for the opening of the new shop. They were very appreciative of our efforts, that ranged from painting, to pot scrubbing, wall washing and window cleaning. Pat even managed to score a couple of good books, so hopefully he has time to sit down, put his feet up and enjoy them.
This week’s meeting will be on a bit more of a grander scale with Air Marshall Sir Bruce Ferguson, talking on the return of the unknown soldier. We have invited a number of other clubs, not just Rotary, but also Lions and the RSA among others, so we’re hoping to see a good turnout, not just from our guests, but also our club members – and of course, just like any other meeting, you’re welcome to bring your partner, family or any others you feel would be interested – just pls get your RSVPs in ASAP so we can get the catering organised.
It will be a longer presentation than normal – 45mins, so pls be aware of that and we’ll be rejigging our normal meeting schedule to cater for that.
Our condolences to Past President Richard Hutchinson and his family, Mary, Connie and Allister on the passing of Richards father recently in New Plymouth.
Others of us are also struggling with medical issues of our own or our family member, and while we’re lucky to be in Level 2, lockdown fatigue and stress is still a vey real thing, so please, remember the Rotary family is here to support any of us having issues or needing help – you just need to reach out.

Finances
There are still a number of people who have yet to pay their subs for this year. As they were due in July, please pay these ASAP. We now have the options for regular partial payments as opposed to a lump sum amount. But if you have any issue or concerns, Karyn or John are always willing to chat and work through issues or options
Milk Bank Ball
With the move to level 2, the committee has been able to reschedule the ball to Friday 15 October. Numbers will be reduced in line with Covid restrictions, so to ensure your seat for this great event, please get in quick to get your tickets - $45 each for a great night and a worthy cause – pls see Denise Garcia for tickets and further information
Party in the Plaza
Work on this continues – there’s a meeting next Saturday, 2pm at the Sprig and Fern for anyone interested in helping out on preparations for this event.
Liz Sutton has worked with the MenzShed to produce an amazing mud kitchen that will be raffled on the day of the Xmas Parade and Party in the Plaza, an amazing Xmas present for some lucky child perhaps?
Pride in Work Awards
Pat and his team have done a great job in promoting this with at least 7 nominations so far, will be a great night on the 19th October. With Dr Chris Galvin the speaker on the night, it’s going to be a very inspiring evening.
Foundation
Some good news recently in that the Taliban have agreed to allow Rotary to continue vaccinations in Afghanistan, one of only 2 countries left where Polio is still classed as endemic.
Youth
Youth night is confirmed for 26 October, where we’ll have our Innovative Young Minds attendant speaking on their experience.
