President Joe - Update
Kia ora all and welcome to 2023!

We are all set for a lively debate on Tuesday evening. It will be our first meeting of the year.

Venue: Tawa Bowling Club, Davies Street, Tawa.
Time: 5.45pm for dinner at 6.15pm.

David Watt is the co-ordinator for Karori Club and Pat will be the coordinator for Tawa Club.

Brian Frampton has agreeded to join the Tawa debate team. The subject is: "Now is better than later". Karori have chosen to Negate the subject so we will Affirm.

Colin Miller will be the adjudicator who is a very experienced debater and will be an excellent adjudicator.

The evening will be 'fun' so let's make the subject light, humorous and of course educational!!!

Each speaker has 5 minutes with 7 minutes for lead speaker to provide a summary.

Karori's speakers are:

Lead: Coral Aitchison who is a past president of Karori Rotary, now with the Carterton Rotary Club. She is quite a formidable debater and a past President of The Wellington Speaking Union.

2nd: Graeme Titcombe also a Past President of the Karori club and a debater of old.

Tawa's speakers are:

Lead: Di Patchett PHF, President of Inner Wheel Tawa - a very experienced speaker and debater. Di is the wife of Euan a member of Tawa Club and is very engaged with the Club and the community.

2nd: Brian Frampton - Honorary Member of Tawa Club, a formidable speaker who I am sure will test the boundaries of the subject. Brian now resides in the Kapiti Coast but as a former long term member of Tawa he keeps actively involved with the Club.

The next meet at the Sprig and Fern is on 5 Feb and Concert in the Park is 5 March.

Nga mihi nui
Joe

Notices and Events

NOTICES:

Rotary was asked by the Tawa Residents Assn to help provide some assistance with the operation of a BBQ as part of a local Community family fun event at Wall Park last Thursday 12th January.  Gaylene and Elizabeth and myself were in attendance from Rotary.

This event was jointly organized by the Tawa Residents Assn in conjunction with Tawa Community Board and WCC, the Vulnerable Support Charitable Trust which operates and after school programme and the Community Garden at Linden Community Centre, and also Te Ahuru Mowai - the social housing arm of Ngati Toa who have taken over the running of the ex housing corp houses in Tawa.   Members of Tawa Volunteer Fire brigade and Tawa Community Patrol were also present.   A Mr Wippy van was present and some other game activities were provided by the WCC events team.    All of the foods and events were free to local residents who came along.  The purpose of the event was to both belatedly celebrate the installation of a new playground equipment at this park by WCC just before covid arrived and also to provide some local community engagement PR for Te Ahuru Mowai.   After an initially dubious weather day it turned out well for the event and everyone was pleased with the occasion.

Thanks Richard Herbert

Hot of the Prese from Gaylene - RYLA:

This week RYLA was held at Forest Lakes, finishing today

I took the time to attend the BBQ that was held on Friday evening.  Although
there was light rain falling it in no way dampened the spirits of the 31
participants and helpers.   It was for me a time to speaker to the young
people and how the course so far has been beneficial to them in different
ways. Pushing them out of their comfort zone

This was definitely the case with Tawa Rotary’s two participants….. Kerian
Jennings and Ella Phillips. They have done themselves proud and our Club for
sponsoring them, they cannot wait to come and speak to our Club in February

Murray Williams, one of the main organisers of RYLA 9940 for the last 20
years was presented with a sapphire Paul Harris pin.  He is not a Rotarian
but enjoys working with young people and of course knows that this course is
a jewel in Rotary’s crown. Marilyn Stevens presented the pin
A great night
GAYLENE

Thanks Gaylene Lines

Action Plan

As People of Action, we understand that fulfilling that vision requires a plan.
More than a century ago, we pioneered a new model of service leadership grounded in person-to-person connections. Today, those connections are a network that spans the globe—bridging cultural, linguistic, generational, and geographic barriers—and shares the vision of a better world. As People of Action, we understand that fulfilling that vision requires a plan.
