Attitude – good bad or indifferent makes a huge impact on how you live your life and how other’s lives affect yours. To get on well you need a good attitude and a great attitude reflects on to those around you. It’s very much the case at your job.

This reflection is what we want to emphasis with Rotary’s Pride in Work Awards. Its not a competition but its about being the best you can be at your job and therefore deriving the most satisfaction for yourself and those who work with you. Ultimately its about the ATTITUDE and the PRIDE.

Tawa Rotary’s Pride in Work Awards takes place in two weeks – November 12th – and we are still seeking nominations from Tawa businesses to acknowledge staff for their attitude and their work ethic. If you know a local employer who could be willing to give a member of their staff a thank you and acknowledgement please let them know about this opportunity and give them a copy of the  nomination form which will be sent to you all.

Tawa Rotary Progressive Pot Luck Christmas dinner, organised by Club Service.
see below:

Back by popular demand is the “Pot Luck Progressive Dinner” on Saturday 14th December 2019, from 6.30pm  – I hope you will discuss with your social secretary whether this will be ‘the Christmas event’ for you for 2019.
To refresh your memories and as the name suggests, it is pot luck. That means attendees do the cooking and keep us all guessing!
And also ‘progressive’ in the name suggests attendees are on the move, in other words go from house to house.
So to outline the event, there will be three homes for entrees, three homes for mains, and then a central home for desert and coffee.
Each couple will be allocated their venues (and timetable) to attend, and one of those venues to provide their ‘pot luck dish’.
Being as we are responsible drivers, and conscious of the new drink driving laws, the emphasis of the event is food and fellowship, but you are welcome to assist with BYO.
I invite offers of hosts, and Club Service believes hosts don’t need to provide a ‘pot luck dish’, but perhaps a few drinks. Otherwise there is no cost.
Hope you are all able to attend - we will be contacting you all in the next few days to see if you able to join us.

Any questions please contact Malcolm Andrews.

Ride The Train for Polio - UPDATE

“World Polio Day was celebrated on a Thursday 24th October.   A major push to finally eliminate the polio virus from the world is on the brink and is possible over the next 5 years.   The cost is great but the benefits so much greater.   And what is even better for Rotary is that our find raising is tripled by the contributions from our partners, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Advance Notice
Melbourne Cup Night - Plimmerton Rotary Tuesday 05 November
PLEASE NOTE: APOLOGIES TO MALCOLM ANDREWS BEFORE 7PM SUNDAY 03 NOVEMBER 2019

As with previous years, we have been invited to the Plimmerton Rotary Club. Since the race starts at 5.00 pm (NZ time ) and you want to participate in the sweepstake, you will need to arrive at the Cruising Club as early as possible and certainly by 4.30 pm . The evening is a partners' night and they again have some fantastic prizes for the most ‘Fascinating Fascinator' as well as for the ‘Best Dressed Male’.  I am sure we will have a good representation at the Cruising Club to join in the atmosphere. Dinner will be served probably about 6.00 pm and I am sure it will again be an evening with a lot of fun, so put it in your diary -  Tuesday 5th November, Melbourne Cup Evening.
Presidential Message October 2019

Mark Maloney  -  President 2019-20

Rotary's long-term, sustained battle against polio has defined our organization for decades. We have a right to be proud of all that we have accomplished through the years.

Our progress is real and noteworthy. In 1988, polio was endemic in 125 countries, with more than 350,000 new cases a year worldwide. Since then, Rotary and our Global Polio Eradication Initiative partners have reduced the incidence of polio by more than 99.9 percent, vaccinated more than 2.5 billion children against the virus, and prevented 18 million cases of paralysis. Over the years, Rotary has helped country after country move into the polio-free column. This includes India, which some considered impossible not long ago. Of the three types of poliovirus, type 2 has been eradicated and type 3 could soon be certified as eradicated. Nigeria has not reported a case of wild poliovirus in nearly three years. If this trend holds, we will be down to just one type of wild poliovirus in only one section of the world, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

There are major challenges in that region. But it is crucial that we remain optimistic. Look at all that we have accomplished so far. This is no time to get discouraged or to think that the task is impossible. We will end polio forever, but only if we remain steadfast and vigilant. World Polio Day is a time for Rotarians from all over the globe to come together, recognize the progress we have made in our fight against polio, and plan the action we must take to end polio forever. The key word is action, because we still have important work to do.
