On Tuesday 25th September, we have as speaker Simon Woolf, Photographer and Wellington City Councillor. This is also a combined meeting with members of the Lions Club of Tawa also joining us for our annual joint meeting. Partners and guest are also welcome - but please don't forget to register guests and apologies as normal.

Keep the night free on Tuesday, 16th October. Meet the 9940 District Governor as she shares our Tawa Rotary Worlds Greatest Meal fun night.

Bring partners and family - for a great night of fun and food!

Judith has organised a Paella Chef to be on site and a Spanish flavour to the night.

This will be the Tawa Rotary - Worlds Greatest Meal fundraising night for POLIO, and also celebrating World Polio Day (24th October).

On Wednesday 17th October, Plimmerton Club have organised a Suffrage 125 event to celebrate Porirua College growing powerful young women. Hear some inspirational women speakers, and entertainment from Porirua college students. See event info for more details.

On Sunday 4th November, Porirua Club have organised a Diwali celebration meal at the Whitby Taj. There are two sitting times still available at 1pm and 4.30pm. Why not get together a table of friends. Confirmations of interest are required by 30 September. See event info for more details.

And if you're interested in Electric Vehicles then the next meeting of the Tawa Union Church Men's group, in conjunction with MenzShed Tawa, have as their speaker, Sigurd Magnusson, who is an EV evangelist and EV charging station roll out project manager for Wellington City Council. Meeting is at Tawa Union Church Men's on Friday, 29th September. Join us for a cuppa and chat at 9.30am followed by the speaker at 10.00am. Visitors and women are very welcome.

Today is International Car-Free Day.

This weekend is a good time to break out all modes of transport other than the car - your legs, your bike, your eBike among others … maybe even your horse? Then head out to the local Rotary inspired walkway and enjoy the fresh air. There will be one in your community - discover it.

Young Professionals are throughout Rotary

They are keen to be active in Rotary in many ways and are.

An example is the recent Australia New Zealand Rotary Conference in Hobart attended by over 680 Rotarians and partners from throughout New Zealand and Australia and open to all Rotarians. The MC role was very capably performed by Courtney who is the Editor of a Tasmanian daily newspaper.

It is a myth that Rotary is for those people long in their vocations as with the right club environment where they are given the chance to participate meaningfully, young professionals are readily joining Rotary.

They are doing this because they ARE receiving the opportunities to mix with a wide group of people, they are gaining the mentoring they seek, it is helping them with their careers, it provides an effective way to volunteer and they are gaining considerable personal satisfaction as a result.

Seven Women

Founder and CEO, Stephanie Woollard, recently spoke at the 2018 Australia New Zealand Rotary Conference held in Hobart, Tasmania. Stephanie received a Rotary Peace Scholarship to complete her Masters in Peace and Conflict Resolution at Uppsala University in Sweden. She spoke to a group of leading Rotarians from all over Australia about the story of Seven Women and the successful social enterprises that have developed. We are thrilled with the support from Rotary International and look forward to continuing to grow this great relationship!

Imagine if we could take a snapshot capturing all of the work Rotary does on a given day. No one – except Rotarians – would believe that a single organization was capable of accomplishing so much. In that snapshot you would see dedicated volunteers working to eradicate polio, setting up microloans, providing clean water, mentoring youth, and countless other actions.

We can do all this thanks both to our geographic reach and to the fact that our clubs are made up of people who are engaged in their communities. As a part of the community that you serve, you know the needs, you have the connections, and you're able to take immediate action. That's why every Rotary club's membership should reflect the diversity of its community.
