This Tuesday on 10th July we met at the New World shop for a Book Fair work-bee and our traditional fish 'n' Chip meal at this time. And on Friday we held a Rotary members and friends and family book fair preview. Thanks to those who came along and help get the book fair preparations ready for opening.
Thanks to Malcolm for organising the setup for both of these events.

The Book Fair is less than a week away now and there is a lot still to be done. We have more books than we have space to display them and will need to leave some non-fiction books in their boxes until there is more space on the trays. We have concentrated on fiction this year, as these represent our sales. With more display space allocated, this category has been laid out fairly tidily. Note that we have still needed to off-load the more popular authors into boxes around the walls and under the tables
The problem areas are the non-fiction trays, which have books piled on books. One of the main jobs for our Tuesday night meeting is tidying these trays, taking off the upper books and re-boxing them, preferably “spines up” in boxes under the trays or along the walls close to the parent trays (where they can still be seen). Where there is insufficient space for this, simply re-box them as best you can for possible use later on in the sale.
We need to present a professional looking display to our customers. This involves laying out the books so all the titles in a row read the same way, with none upside down. This is not heavy work, just a case of looking over the rows and re-aligning any books, as necessary. Note that we have tried as far as possible to maximise display space by loading the books in rows according to their sizes.
Many thanks to the very few regular helpers who have set things up so far. This is not just a Club Project – it is also our biggest money earner that allows the club to support other causes and so warrants full club support. Please come along on Tuesday night to help out and, if you can make it, come along during the week. Books are still flowing in and it is a constant job to sort and distribute newly donated books into their correct section locations.
We are proposing a “Family and Friends Preview Meeting” at the venue on Friday 13 July from 7.00pm. This is your chance to select books without the rush and bustle of the main sales days. We will have an EFTPOS terminal available, so don’t worry about bringing cash.
Lots of help needed on the first Saturday from 8.00am, when the volume of sales is at its peak. Members should hover around tidying trays and refilling gaps to replace those that are sold from under the trays. Let’s hope - we might even be able to beat last year’s record sales!
